| A.J. Derby finished his junior season with 1,200 yards passing, 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also rushed for 1,065 yards and 13 touchdowns. Derby says he can bench 265-pounds, squat 405 and claims a 35-inch vertical jump.
Derby says he isn’t sure what he’d like to major in but reports a 3.0 core GPA. He hasn’t scheduled the ACT or SAT yet.
Although Derby played safety as a sophomore, he says he’s being recruited to play quarterback.
Derby: “I’m a quarterback. Everyone is recruiting me as a QB. I’m a good leader and am really competitive. I have the ability to leave the pocket and can make something out of nothing. I definitely look to throw first, but I’m not afraid to take off and run and make things happen.
“I’m working a lot on my feet. I also want to improve my accuracy in my throws.”
